Cowaramup Bay Boardriders held a contest at Hangwomans on Aussie Day and as usual we lucked into great little waves and great weather conditions for this tightly contested event. We were greeted by uncrowded 2-3 foot glassy conditions and the kids couldn''t get out there fast enough. It looked like the Goofy footers were going to control the contest as the reef was perfect for backhand snaps in the pocket. As the contest went on, some of the usual finalists fell by the wayside with Cohen McCashney ripping his way into his first final but he was to come up against some heavy hitters in Brook, Kashmir and Blake.
Winner: Blake McKinley
The final got underway as the sea breeze started to waft in so it was a matter of who picked off the best waves and it came down to Kashmirs finesse. Blake took out his maiden victory with the others in the final just not being able to find the right waves. ’ power hacks and Blakes’ inpocket
Finalist: Kashmir Jones
Our first adults single fin contest was sent out after the kids final and showed that the adults were well past their prime.
Martin (Mouse) Cox took it out with his lengthy close out barrel over Jerra Stanlakes good does not always prevail over evil.
The after contest BBQ was held at the Jones Estate where competitions really hotted up with ping pong and cricket the sports of choice. These continued on for hours which left the kids shattered and the parents to pick up the pieces to drag homeward.
The parents and our great supporters Danial and Sian from Brumby an incredible spread & thanks to all the mums that helped clean up. A special mention has to go the two Sols Sol Pouge-Englet and Sol Edwards for death defying performances in the shore break that will keep the local chiro years in the future .
