Welcome to the new home of the Baystore and Gracetown holiday services on the web!

We are thrilled to be live and excited about all we have to offer here on the site - we have everything from live surf reports & a daily surf report from north point, events, private homes available for holiday rentals and evan a community noticeboard where you can buy, sell and seek.

I saw your letter in the Mail and checked out your forum on development.
Its a pity more people aren't concerned - Gracetown was originally developed as a worker's retreat; gradually became a haven for surfers and has now become at least partly a retreat for the well off.
Development has been on the cards for at least a decade and was only held back by lack of infrastructure such as sewerage and water.
It is almost impossible to 'campaign against' any development - however what is possible and more uplifting is to campaign for something better :
1. A sustainable development
2. renewable energy.
3. Include low cost housing or short term accomodation for less well off (hint : Landcorp)
etc etc
Maybe the local community could put together a conceptual development outline
Too many times development and outside interests have over-ridden local knowledge and community -
usually resulting in a stuff up.

Thank you for taking your time to reply. It is great to hear from you. I wish that I had my camera out this morning and taken a photograph of how many people were on the Bays 150 meters of beach and surfers crowding onto the points. The car parking was spilling out onto the highway all they way to the top of North Point. this little space can barely cope now.

We as a community are working hard on ensuring that we have an input into any development that occurs. It makes my blood boil as time and time again the descision makers (Land Corp) of the future of our Wilderness continue to get away with what they do.

Unspoilt wilderness is becoming so rare that people are flocking into Western Australia to escape and enjoy our own pristine environment. Gracetown is a pristine environment and should be listed as a marine park. We who live in and all those who have loved being in the bay over the years will be campaigning hard on this one.

I will keep in touch.

Great to hear from you. It is a long diligent process. We are lucky that the GPA has some fantastic motivated knowledgeable people. The GPA is now in the process of gathering information for discussion.

What would be good is one site that incorporates all coastal developement, where each community group can support each other when needed. How did it pan out for Two Rocks?
